When I came to work to the Sanchez’ house, I had a lot of troubles with Amelia who was the former cook. She got jealous because my dishes tasted better than hers. So she started to spoil my food. I thank Saint Paschal Baylon for the masters noticed it and scolded her before committing an injustice to me. So I was left in peace.

I came to work as a cook in one house. But the lady who worked there was jealous because my masters loved my food better. She secretly put pepper and salt in my dishes. I ask Saint Paschal for help. And soon enough, the injustice was discovered by my masters. They fired her, so now I’m very happy to cook for the family.

Ignacia Castillo offers this retablo to Saint Paschal Baylon as a sign of gratitude for helping her get a job as a cook in the ranch “Los Gorriones” (“The Sparrows”). As a test of her skills, she was asked to prepare tortillas and mole. The masters liked how it tasted. And it was rumored that they were very strict about food. So now everybody is happy with her cooking.
