December 18, 1972, in Monterrey, I was fighting for the national championship. After two falls, I was feeling I couldn’t do it. But my faith in the Holy Heart gave me strength to win over my opponent. I wholeheartedly thank with this retablo.

I thank the Virgin of San Juan for helping me to get the international championship in the United States, in front of a big audience. I lifted high the name of Mexico and won all my rivals who fought bravely but at the end I was the indisputable winner. I testify that.

Mil Mascaras, 1975

I’m infinitely grateful to Saint Jude for giving me luck of winning Golden gloves in the amateur tournament.

I felt my strength giving out and my body weakening in a tough fight for the title against the Demon of Tampico. I immediately implored Saint Martin de Porres to help me, and I recovered to beat my opponent, and I won the championship. I give thanks.

At the basketball championship, Tereso Arellano hurt his heel. He implored Saint James, and it healed, and his team won. He brings this retablo giving thanks.

May 18, 2005, I was challenging Lopez the Puma in the national bantamweight title. In the 7th round, after a bloody fight, I threw a jab in his jaw and he fell down. Seeing that he wouldn’t get up and being happy with my triumph, I beg the Holy Virgin not to let any damage happen to him and she did so. I give thanks.

I love dancing Argentinian tango and practiced very hard for a tango competition. At the same time I have a stage fright during competitions. I thank Saint Nicholas with this retablo that I had a very talented tang partner to practice for a few months, my tango skills improved and the competition got canceled.

San Francisco, 2020

Thank you, Virgin of Zapopan, because Chicharito scored his first goal on the 64th minute. He got a pass from Marquez, the defense stopped, Chicharito controls, he cuts to the goalkeeper Lloris from the right, shoots and go-o-o-o-oal! That’s how the triumph of Mexico over France began on June 17, 2010.

I dedicate this retablo to Saint Patrick thanking him for being able to make hole in one, and thus win the Regional Golf Tournament. I’d injured my shoulder, and everyone had been telling I wouldn’t play again on professional level. I feel so happy to come back with such a great victory.

Florentino Mendez thanks Saint James the Apostle for helping him to successfully perform the Pass of Death at the cowboy championship. He won the first prize with his team “The Golden Cowboys”, and he dedicates this humble retablo for that.

Coahuila, 1969

The Pass of Death (El paso de la muerte) is a challenge when a cowboy riding bareback attempts to leap from his horse to the bare back of an unbridled wild horse.
