Morelia, Michoacan, 1953. When my husband got retired, he started to cook in order to occupy himself. He cooked so terribly, that we all had a stomach-ache. I was scared that he’d poison all of us. Thanks to Blessed Saint Paschal, my husband finally got bored with cooking and dedicated himself to gardening. I offer this retablo.

Señor Antonio Bravo retired from his company and went into a depression. Then he found in sculpture something that fascinates and entertains him. He brings this retablo to Saint Charbel thanking him for such a unique favor.

Thank you, Virgin, because that irritable misanthrope my father miraculously saved his life when he crashed his little plane in a windmill. He was left crippled, and Delta pensioned him off early. My mother and I are very happy because now he helps us about the house. But my sister isn’t thrilled about it because she can’t spend afternoons locked up in her room with her boyfriend anymore.

When Zinaida Semyonovna retired she started knitting rather odd things. At first her friends and relatives were concerned if she is alright, but then they discussed it and decided that if it makes her happy that’s probably ok. Zinaida Semyonovna cordially thanks her friends and relatives for their understanding and promises to knit an oven mitt for each of them as a New Year gift.

When I retired, I felt lost, decayed and bored, but I recaptured my old liking of repairing toys and I dove in it. First, I repaired the toys of my grandchildren, and now I already put a shop and accept works of the whole city. My grandchildren are happy and they help me in what they can. I feel useful and necessary because we are not many—those who are devoted to this occupation. I feel blissful seeing old and broken toys taking new life in my hands. I thank the Virgin from Guadalupe for this new opportunity.

The music teacher Laura Rodriguez suffered a lot because the girls in the school where she gave lessons were horrible and very unquiet. She thanks the Virgin of Zapopan because now she can retire and with this money—together with her savings—she thinks about buying a piano to give private lessons to people who appreciate the music and can sing.
