I was very happy taking the sun at the beach when suddenly hundreds of crabs surrounded me. They were getting closer and closer to me. I thought they were going to attack me all together at once so I jumped away very scared. But then I noticed that it was my radio attracting them. It seemed they enjoyed the music which was very beautiful by the way. I thank the Virgin for this miracle of saving me from being attacked and pinched by those melomaniac crabs.

My husband and I thank the Holy Lord of Chalma with this retablo for allowing us to perform the Son Jarocho dance every weekend in the city center and in the arcades. It fills us with pride to keep our traditions alive and to share our music with the tourists who visit the beautiful city of Veracruz.

Pedro Andrade ended up in fistfight with his neighbor who was listening music at top volume. He professes gratitude to Saint Jude because despite of leaving the neighbor badly beaten he didn’t lay charges.

I dedicate this ex-voto to Saint Martha for the very talented Kristian Nairn. Not only he played one of the most beloved character in modern history but he also is very much respected in the music community for his work as an innovator DJ. I wish him many years of success.

I, Jeremy Yocum, dedicate this retablo to the Virgin Protectress because despite the fact that I have no idea about music and to being incapable of playing any instrument, me and my fiancée Amanda make a living as vibraphonists. So far we haven’t had any complaints about us doing playback in our shows. The audience think that it is us playing Mambas and Cha-cha-cha.

We thank Saint Cecily with this retablo for the received favor and for making Lupita, our singer, understand that singing wasn’t her profession. She insisted to be our singer but she was so horrible that we were only loosing clients and offers with her howl. Since Lupita has dedicated herself to the violin, we are very happy and the things are going better.

Doña Marta Rios had a guesthouse, and one day a musician rented one of her rooms. He played saxophone all day long, and poor lady couldn’t sleep for 6 weeks. The musician was a very nice man and payed three months ahead, so she wouldn’t want to kick him out. She thanks the Virgin of Zapopan because the musician got a job in the Morelia symphonic orchestra and now she sleeps well.

My boyfriend Fernando and I dedicate this retablo to the Virgin of Toluca because we sing beautiful sacred hymns in duo, instead of those sinful songs we used to perform.

The music is an important element in our family. It always with us, and we love playing musical instruments near the birds. They start singing, and it sounds so beautiful all together. I thank Saint Francis for my children having inherited the musical talent.

Everyone in our family has a musical talent which we are very proud of. However, we were highly disappointed in our son Mario who hadn’t inherited a good ear for music and is awful in playing the instrument he chose. He hadn’t inherited my wife’s wonderful voice as well. He sings horribly. But his teacher has discovered that he’s a mathematical genius. We thank the Virgin of San Juan for our son has some talent.

When my daughter comes out to play her flute, all the cats from the neighborhood follow her like enchanted. It’s all like in that story about the piper and the rats, only with cats. I thank Saint Francis because as soon as she stops playing the cats go back to their homes and don’t stay with her. Otherwise, we’d have no idea what to do with so many cats in the house.

With this humble retablo, I thank the Holy Child of Atocha for protecting me on every November 2. This night my bar is filled with the souls of the dead from the village. They come very happy to celebrate their holiday with a lot of music and mezcal.
