Don Ponciano Lopez dedicates this humble retablo to Saint Isidor Labourer for having good agave production this year. Last season, the weather was bad in the region and he lost a big part of the harvest. He was worried about it because all his family depends on these agaves.

Working in the field is hard, but the birds make my day when they fly over me, sit on my shoulders and sing to me. And I talk with them. Ever since I was little the birds looked for me. They feel good around me. I thank the Virgin of Guadalupe for this miracle of coexistence.

In August, don Laureano Mendez was stung by a scorpion in the field. He implored the Virgin of Zapopan for her divine help, and in few days got recovered. He was back to his job as a tlachiquero—pulque gatherer. For such a great miracle, he dedicates this humble retablo.

We bought a couple of piglets at the San Pedro fair almost for nothing, because they were sickly and weak. But we nursed and cured them. They grew up big pigs. Thank to the Holy Virgin they had a lot of piglets. So now, our little farm is prospering, and we thank the Virgin of Guadalupe for her blessing.

Lidia Castro was very proud of her vegetable-garden, but one day it was flooded with rabbits. They ate the vegetables. Lidia tried to scare them away, but no luck. In despair, she prayed Saint Barbara. The Saint scared the rabbits and they didn’t come back.

Pancracio y Teofilo Castillo, the agave farmers, thank Saint Isidor Labourer for a great miracle of saving their agave plantation. Their plants were in danger because of a terrible plague, and they could lose everything. But now their agaves consider the best ones in the region.

Some bandits attacked the train when Menche and I were on it carrying our money to buy the parcel near the river. I thank the Virgin who gave me strength and courage to go up to the roof with all my money. The bandits didn’t find me there and we bought the land that we wanted so much for having our own little rancho.
