My restaurant is always full because I am, in all modesty, a great cook. But when I close my place at night, here come my favorite clients—stray cats from the neighborhood. I give them milk and feed them with the leftovers. I thank Saint Francis because during the day I earn money and get praised for my dishes and during the night I receive gratitude and caress.

I love spicy food, but my wife used to throw too much chili to her stew. I asked Saint Paschal for his divine help because I couldn’t stand the burning it gave me. Now my wife puts just a right amount of chili in the stew.

We thank the Virgin of San Juan because this year we had a huge crop from our fruit trees. All the women in our family were making jam and marmalade. We sold it and could earn enough money for bad months.

We had serious financial difficulties. We had no money to feed the family, let alone the animals. So they had to provide for themselves. They looked at me with their hungry eyes, and I felt terribly sorry. I thank Saint Francis because bad times have passed. Now we have enough money and I give the animals double portions in order to make up for their sufferings.

I’m a terrible cook. Thats why my mama used to say I’d never get married. But thanks to Saint Paschal I found a husband who cooks marvelously. He adores cooking, and it is his passion. He prepares delicious dishes for me and our kids. I thank Saint Paschal, the patron of cooks.

Rosito Lagaretta had a stomachache after eating his mother-in-law’s soup. He didn’t know she had tried to kill him and had poisoned the soup. When he found out about it, he asked Saint Cyprian for helping him get rid of his mother-in-law. One day she had a party and poisoned the orgeat syrup. But she was a fool to not know that Rosito doesn’t drink anything but beer. His mother-in-law and her daughter got drunk at the party and when they got thirsty they drank all the orgeat.
Now my wife rests in peace. I thank for her mother kicked the bucket alongside with her because I couldn’t stand her. She was treating me very badly.
