One night my daughter and I went to visit my friend and bring her some jam. Suddenly the ghost of the woman drowned in the lake appeared to us. By the legend, she killed herself because of treason and now tries to grab people and drag them to the bottom of the lake with her. I grabbed my crucifix and prayed the Virgin of the Rosary to exorcise the apparition. The ghost seemed to get scared and disappeared. We thank the Holy Virgin.

My wife used to have terrifying nightmares because she read horror stories. She woke up at night screaming and kicking around. She even pushed me off the bed. I thank the Virgin of Zapopan, because my wife reads love stories now. She tells that she has nice dreams about handsome men, she looks like she kisses them at her dream, and we both sleep in peace.

My wife read in a decoration magazine that the “Dark” style was in vogue. She painted our bedroom in black. It looked hideous. But when she decided to change our furniture for black furniture and she bought the black bed linen, I couldn’t take it more. I thank the Virgin of the Rosary for giving me strength to shout on my wife, in spite of being a very complaisant and calm husband who loves his wife very much. Fortunately, my wife understood that I didn’t like the “Dark” style. So now our bedroom is white again.

Marta and Cleotilde Marquez thank the Virgin of Zapopan for the things in their pit and jug shop are going well and they are even saving money for the Marta’s daughter’s wedding. They offer this retablo to the Holy Virgin.

Luisa Maria Gomes had a lot of suitors. All of them tried to win her over but being dull and predictable they only annoyed her. And they weren’t handsome. One day she met Pedro Lopez. He conquered her heart by giving her a carnivorous plant. She thank Saint Anthony for such an original man who’s also smart and has beautiful eyes. And with this plant, there are no more flies and mosquitos in her house.

I’m a terrible cook. Thats why my mama used to say I’d never get married. But thanks to Saint Paschal I found a husband who cooks marvelously. He adores cooking, and it is his passion. He prepares delicious dishes for me and our kids. I thank Saint Paschal, the patron of cooks.

When I was very sick, the Death in person came to my bedroom. Horrified, I prayed to the Virgin of Zapopan so that she’d scare the Death away. The Holy Virgin gave courage to my dogs, and they attacked the Death. The Death felt the dogs gnawing the bones and disappeared without taking me. I thank the Holy Virgin.

I left my daughter Petronila to look after her little brother. She brought him to fly kites with his friends. She had to tie her shoelaces and gave a kite to a very small boy. He was taken up in the air. I thank the Virgin for they were able to catch him and nothing happened to him.

That dark night in November, my family and I had to ride through the cemetery. We got scared as many skeletons, ghosts and dead men appeared to us. They looked threatening. We thank the Virgin of Guadalupe for her protection and because she gave our horse more speed so the dead didn’t get us.

Laura and Catalina Peña were in a bad financial position. But since they were good pastry cooks, they had an idea of selling cakes. They thank Saint Paschal Baylon, a patron saint of cooks, because now they make enough money to support themselves and even to save something for hard times and also for having fun sometimes.

My daughters hate to bath and always ran away from me. It was really hard to keep them clean. So I prayed the Virgin of San Juan for help, and amazingly she made the miracle. My girls love water now and don’t want to get out of the bath.

Juan Gallardo was taken with the mermaid’s singing. He couldn’t sleep, he couldn’t eat, and was constantly thinking about her. He swam to the rocks to see her. His wife Rosario understood that she was loosing her husband, so she prayed to the Virgin of San Juan. The Virgin suggested Rosario should put earplugs in Juan’s ears. Thanks to that, the charms were broken and her husband was back to his senses again.
