Thank you, Virgin of Guadalupe, for saving my son Julio. I sent him to take money from my friend. He didn’t come back for a long time and I went to find him. To my surprise, I found him lying on the ground. He had been attacked and shot. I dedicate this retablo to the brown-skin Virgin for saving him.

The night of the Day of the Dead I decided to bring some flowers to my grand-mother’s grave. I was going to the cemetery when I found out it was very lively on the streets but there were only skeletons who were walking happily around. I thought I was going mad, I prayed the Virgin of Guadalupe and ran back. When I got home everything turned back to normal. I thank for that.

One beautiful night, I have to camp. I was assembling my tent when I saw witches flying over me. Thanks to my prayers to the Virgin of Guadalupe they didn’t notice me so I was saved from being bewitched.

With devotion, I’m thanking the Virgin of Guadalupe for a miracle that I’m still working in my shoe-repair shop. I had some difficulties in my business and was ready to close my shop. But now everything’s going well again. Sometimes I had so much work, I can’t cope with it.

The teacher Josefa Alvarez thanks the Virgin because when she stumbled and fell back of the platform she didn’t get hurt for she landed on Felipe Barajas. She also thanks because Felipe didn’t get hurt very much either.

Holy Virgin of Guadalupe, I’m bringing you this retablo thanking for curing my husband Filemon Garcia of horrible diarrhea with high fever. It all began after one drunk night he had. My husband was dying and no remedy could help him. But I entrusted him to you, and he’s cured now.

After many nights spent guarding, Guadalupe Gomez M. finally caught and enchained a cadejo (woman nagual) that used to kill and stole her animals. The cadejo looked like a pig. Guadalupe tied her with a special magic rope made of horse hair so she wouldn’t run away, because it was long after midnight. Early at the morning this pig started to scream and tried to escape, because it began to turn into human with sunrise. Her skin began to fall down. It meant that her end was near. Guadalupe thanks the Virgin of Guadalupe for help.

It happened on March 21, 1908, at the Echegaray village, Pijijiapan, Chiapas.
