I was desperate when I was fired. I didn’t know how to support my family. Then I had an idea to sell tacos at night. I asked the Virgin of Juquila for help, and thanks to her divine assistance the things are going very well. My tacos are the best in the neighborhood.

I thank Saint Martin the Cavalryman for helping me with so many customers who come to buy my tamales. I had no job and then I suddenly found my mother’s recipe of tamales with mole, rajas and sweet green sauce. The people love it very much.

I was very apt at fashion design, and my boyfriend was a good tailor. We opened an atelier, and things went so well that now we have become high-fashion designers. We’re thinking about opening our own firm. We thank the Virgin of the Rosary for our talents.

The doña Paca’s tavern was very popular until one day a new joint opened up near by. They had a jukebox and offered free soft drinks and bread to the meal. Nobody came to doña Paca anymore. She was desperate, so she entrusted herself to Saint Francis. And a miracle happened right before her eyes. Giant cockroaches came from a garbage can and went in a line to the new tavern. So now the people prefer the doña Paca’s tavern again. She thanks her saint promoter.

Ana Maria Gonzalez was terrified to find out that she had a sin — gambling. One Thursday, as usual, she was spending time with her friends playing cards. She lost everything and staked her husband’s house. Ana Maria thanked the Virgin of Zapopan for she won that game. She promised not to play again, and as if she would have such a temptation she would go to bake. Now, Ana Maria opened the pastry-shop and it brings her a good income.

My family was going through financial difficulties. I wanted to help them within my abilities. I took all the flowers I was growing back in the garden and went to sell them in the Xochimilco dock. My flowers were so beautiful, I sold them in a moment. And the people wanted to buy more. So I opened a small flower shop. Now I give job for other families who help me. I’m very glad to work with such a beauty and earn money in this way. I thank the Virgin of Guadalupe for my luck.

I dedicate this retablo to the Virgin of Guadalupe as gratitude for the miracle that I’ve bought a new cart for selling sweet potatoes. My old one was stolen and I couldn’t work without it. And now I sell even more potatoes.
