One night I worked till late at night. I was coming home, walking near the cemetery, when the ghost of my aunt Clotilde started to pursue me. Only when I invoked the Lord of Work I could escape from it and arrived home safe and sound. Then I ordered few masses for my aunt’s soul and now I dedicate this retablo thanking for saving me.

On the night of November 2, 1982, my girlfriend Lupita and I went to a date to the cemetery, because my mother-in-law didn’t permit to Lupita to have suitors. We were alone chatting, when suddenly some skeletons appeared. They were dancing and playing some instruments. We got scared and promised not to come to the cemetery ever again. Thanks to the Virgin of Guadalupe we didn’t get sick and we even get married. So now we’re happy.

It was November 2. I went to the cemetery to visit my late friends. I was tired and fell asleep. To my surprise, when I awoke, I found myself surrounded by skeletons who were eating the offerings. I was scared and rushed out from the cemetery. I thank the Virgin of Guadalupe.

Adalberto Martinez was tired after work and when he was passing by the cemetery he lay down to have a rest and fell asleep. He was awake because of loud laughs and music. He saw that the dead men had risen from their graves and had a party. Adalbert entrusted himself to the Virgin of Guadalupe. Thanks to her he managed to escape unnoticed, because he was afraid they’d invite him to party and he would die out of fear.

R. M. was caught by the police for necrophilia. He thanks Saint James because the judge sent him to the psychiatric institution and not to the prison, where he would have been treated very badly.

Rafael Vazquez was caught robbing tombs at the cemetery. He thanks Saint Pancras, because he didn’t stay in jail for long, and he promises to amend his ways.

Because of financial problems, we had to move to the outskirts of the town to live with aunt Cleotilda. My girls were scared because on their way to school they had to go through the old, abandoned cemetery. There were a lot of horrific stories about the cemetery. They were so frightened, they refused to go to the school. But thanks to the Virgin of the Rosary my husband found a good job, so we can moved back to the town. We thank for that.

Vicente Lopez went to drink to the cemetery for not being scolded by his wife. But the dead didn’t appreciate this lack of respect. The skeletons rose from the ground to take Vicente in the grave. He thanks the Saint Michael the Archangel for his intervention and saving Vicente from the deadly clutches. Vicente was able to escape and now he promises not to drink anymore.

One beautiful night my boyfriend Pedro and I went to the cemetery so no one could see us, because my parents didn’t allow me to have boyfriend. Suddenly some skeletons appeared. We were so frightened, we ran away. We thank the Virgin of Guadalupe for we didn’t get sick.

Señor Bruno Camargo went to visit his brother’s grave and then he felt like having a meal right on the tomb. Bruno thanks Saint Bruno because his late brother appeared to him and they had a nice chat like in old times when his brother was alive.

On the Day of the Dead, I was walking through the cemetery when I met a ghost. The ghost started chasing me, so I instantly sobered up from fear. I prayed to Saint Francis to whom I’m thankful because the ghost didn’t catch me and I arrived home alive.
