I sold the oranges at the market and bought the piglet. I rode my donkey holding the piglet, when we fell into a pit. I fell down and the donkey with the piglet fell over me. I couldn’t move. I thought we were going to die down there in the dark. But thanks to Saint Francis a muleteer was passing by. He heard my screams, and he helped me out. I bruised myself but I was safe. The donkey and the piglet, since they fell on me, were also alright. I give thanks.

My kitchen was filled with cockroaches. My cat was very lazy to catch them. I didn’t know how to get rid of them. Saint Paschal gave me an idea to bring all my farm animals to the kitchen—the pigs, the ducks, the chicken. They ate all the cockroaches saving my kitchen, although they dirtied it up a little.

I used to cook delicious pork chops or ham and eggs for my family because I thought these are very nutritious dishes. But one night some pigs with wings appeared to me. They looked at me in an accusatorial way. I got scared and implored Saint Quiteria to protect me from the pigs. I promised I’d cook only chicken breast and fish fillet and I’d even make eggs without ham. I thank the Saint because the pigs never come back to look at me.

It was late at night, when me and my husband were coming home from our friend Jose Luis. Suddenly a witch riding the animal related to her, that was a pig, appeared to us. I was scared. I closed my eyes and started praying to the Virgin of San Juan. She worked the miracle, and the witch passed without seeing us. She didn’t cause any harm to us, nor put the evil eye. We thank the Holy Virgin.

Our piglet ran away and went to the railroad tracks. My son Felipe went to drag it off right before the approaching train. It was a miracle of the Virgin of Guadalupe that he managed to pull the piglet before the train hit them. Thanks.

I spoiled my dog and let it eat at the table. But when I married a wonderful woman, I was afraid she wouldn’t allow my dog to eat with us. But she happened to have two well-mannered piglets and they also ate at the table. I thank the Virgin of San Juan because we are a very happy family now.

My son plays flute so wonderful that all the farm animals dance around him and the birds lay more eggs, and the goats give more milk, and the pigs have more piglets. I thank the Virgin of San Juan for giving my son this magic talent. Thanks to his music our farm prospers.

Joel was working in the corn field when his pig escaped. Joel was sad, but we prayed to you, Virgin of San Juan, so you’d help us to find it. Don Pepe brought it back, and we dedicate this retablo to you.
