I dedicate this retablo to you, Virgin of Guadalupe, for the love of my mother, who used to lull me in her rebozo-shawl until I fell asleep. She sang me lullabies while working as a laundress, washing clothes. She loved this rebozo so much that she wore it till her death. When I see a rebozo, it calls up these sweet memories about my mother, doña Carmelita, whom I never forget.

After her little brother being born, my daughter changed. She became sullen, angry and grumpy. I was preoccupied, but then my brother left us his cat, because he was going to work in the capital. Since this cat came to our house, my daughter started to behave as before. She plays and talks with cat. And I thank the Virgin for this miracle.

My son Miguelito was blown away from my hands by a strong wind. My son is small and light so he was carried up in the air. But thanks to the Virgin of Zapopan we caught him.

A dog chased a group of girls from the Saint Martin school. Then the dog bit them. The mothers of the girls thank the Virgin of Zapopan because the dog was caught and the examination showed it wasn’t rabid.

Doña Rosalia Perez was coming back from the cinema with her children and hit a stray puppy. The children thank the Virgin of San Juan because the puppy has survived and now they keep it as a pet.

Thank you, Virgin of Guadalupe, for helping me to celebrate the 15-year birthday of my my daughter Teresita. Because of lack of money, I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to organize something for that special day.

I was washing my little son Toñito. I went for a towel, and when I came back I saw my son frothing at his mouth. I thought he was scared, but then I saw that he had eaten the soap. I thank the Virgin of Guadalupe for he wasn’t intoxicated and didn’t choke with the soap.

My little son fell sick of pneumonia. But the doctor told me that he’d survive, because I kept the cradle in the warm kitchen. I entrusted my son to Saint Paschal Baylon, and the next day he got better. I thank for that with the retablo.

The boy Manuel thanks the Virgin of Guadalupe for El Mistico won over Doctor Wagner at the Arena Mexico. The boy’s father had promised him that, if El Mistico would win, he would take Manuel to see every fight of his idol.

I give thanks to Saint Martin the Cavalryman for the miracle that I’m selling all the carnitas I prepare, so I can make money for my daughter Chayito’s first communion. I’m even getting orders from the entire neighborhood.
