Saint patroness of Oaxaca, queen of the Oaxacans, Holy Virgin of the Solitude, in these times of crisis, illness, I implore you to help. Holy Mother, help your town, do not leave us and protect us from this evil. Give us hope and hear your sons calling you before this devastating pandemic. Protect us, Holy Virgin, I beg you.

Thank you, Virgin of the Rosary, I was able to convince my fiancé to get back to the church for his own good.

My fiancée’s brother was so jealous that we had to hide our engagement. In order to spend more time together, she got an idea to dress me up like a woman so I could pass for her friend. I thank Saint Sebastian for her brother had to go to work in another country because he was already falling in love with me. Now my fiancée and I are free.

My patrons asked me to cook some mole and two turkeys. I was feeling bad to kill birds. I thank Saint Paschal because I convinced my patrons to have another dish and they even gave me those two turkeys as a gift. I took them back to my hut, and I’m very glad.

I voluntarily did an abortion when I first got pregnant because I didn’t feel ready to become a mom. Later the Virgin of Juquila blessed me with two sons, and I’m very happy now because I can provide them with a decent life. Thank you, Virgin, for blessing me so much.

Thank you, Virgin of the Solitude, because you were near in the moments of anxiety on the day I decided to terminate my pregnancy which was the result of a rape. When I got out of the hospital I felt peaceful. I’m sure you protect me in your great mercy.

I’m very calm because everything went well with an abortion, and without any complication. I was very frightened that something could go wrong, but God stayed near me.

When I took the decision about an abortion, I was full of fear and doubts. But I entrusted myself to you, Virgin of Guadalupe. I know you would never leave me alone because who else could better understand the situation I was going through.

With this humble retablo, I give infinite thanks to the Virgin of Juquila for protecting me on every November 2, because on this night my bar fills with the souls of the dead of the town who come very cheerful to celebrate their day with lots of music and mezcal.

I, Flaviano Rodriguez, pay you, Holy Heart, with this retablo for saving me from faces with bones that jumped on me in the field. I implored you, and you saved me.

I’m a big fan of selfies. The other day, I went to the zoo and thought it’d be cool to make a selfie with a lion and upload it on Facebook without realizing how dangerous it could be to have a lion so close. I bring this retablo to the Virign of Juquila the Great because thank to my phone’s flash the giant cat got scared and didn’t do anything to me. I promise to be more responsible while making photos.

I dedicate the present retablo to Saint Paschal Baylon thanking him because my grandmother Petra instilled me love for the kitchen since childhood. She was a great cook, and I inherited this from her. I discovered my vocation, and I’m a professional chef now. I proudly bring the taste of the traditional Mexican cuisine to the entire world.

I thank the Virgin of Juquila with this retablo because she didn’t leave me when I so needed her. I was going to close my shop, because of lack of clients. But one day a deputy came to my shop and asked for a haircut. He was so pleased with it that he recommended me to his family and the friend from high society. And my life changed.
