On our way back from the town of Carrizo del Valle, I decided to take a rest with my children Maria and Lucas. Suddenly we heard a loud noise and saw that the donkey that carried the provision fell from the cliff. We ran to help him, we pulled the rope as strong as we could but the donkey was too heavy. I felt that my strength oozed away, and I prayed the Holy Heart of Jesus. And the donkey managed to come up safe and sound.

Catarino Pantoja was in a tavern when his beloved ones began fighting each other. They two ended up in the hospital, along with the baby. Catarino thanks the Merciful Lord with this retablo because all three have already come out of the hospital and he managed to get rid of them.

I give thanks to the Virgin of Zapopan because I’ve almost always got intelligent and caring pupils. They make me feel very good professionally as a teacher. I offer this retablo to the Holy Virgin.

Virgin of San Juan, thank you for appearing in the circus when a very horny horse jumped on Bigbooty the clown. I, Panfilo de Narvaez, implored you so that the children wouldn’t see such a grotesque scene.

When I was taking my little daughter to visit her grandmother, we were attacked by some rabid dogs. I thank the Virgin of Guadalupe for they didn’t bite her.

I, Casimira Sanchez, thank Saint Francis of Assisi because my husband won the booby prize with me. Being so excited in the circus he didn’t even see that a dark black man who stayed near me touched my hand and that three our kids look like him.

Bad thing happened with a boy Juanito Sanchez. He was working at this sandwich place and he was hit by a car that nailed him to the kiosk. Seeing that tragedy, his mom implored you, Virgin of Guadalupe, so that you’d save him from this tragedy.

It was a cloudy evening, and it was blowing hard. My wife had to give birth bolero due, but we lived far from the town. Our pickup truck broke down half the way. My wife had a terrible pain, and I carried her over the hills with the strong wind blowing me in the face. Our little daughter Teresita was behind us in the darkness without seeing where to go. I was exhausted, Josefina was in a lot of pain. When I couldn’t take it anymore, I invoked the Virgin of Guadalupe, and she gave me strength to go on on and get to the town. My son is called Lupe. I dedicate this retablo for her miracle.

My son Manuel had a congestion because he went swimming right after having eaten, and he fainted and went drowning in the sea. But thanks to the Virgin of the Rosary who sent a dog to save him from dying at the depth, the dog took him out right before he drown. Now my son is alright, and the dog has become his friend. He named her Chavita because she was his savior. We give thanks for such a miracle.

Tulum, 1989

Notes:
Chavo is the nickname for those whose name is Salvador which means “savior”. Chavita is a diminutive of the feminine form of that nickname.

A miracle made by Saint Quiteria of Frexeiras to my son in 1977. I bring him to your altar as I promised.

I thank Saint Francis for giving my daughter the ability to communicate with birds. It’s amazing to see how the birds seek her and sit on her shoulders or in her hands or tangle in her hair, and she joins their twittering, and all together they make a harmonious symphony of friendship.
