I thank the Virgin of San Juan for helping me when I was attacked and raped by the robbers. They didn’t kill me nor did they infect me with some bad mortal disease.

My neighbors gossiped that my friend was flirting with my husband and even wanted to take him away from me. One day I met her at the laundry place. I grabber her hair, so she looked like a scarecrow. I thank Saint Raymond Nonnatus because I have found that those rumors were lies. I reconciled with my friend, and from now on the gossipy neighbor won’t bother us.

Eugenia Chavez liked to hang washing while being half-naked in order to tease the male neighbors. Until one day the wife of a neighbor hit her with a pan, sending Eugenia to the hospital. Eugenia thanks Saint Rita for her recovery and promises not to be so naughty.

Yolanda presents this retablo because, when she was attacked and thought that she was going to die, she prayed to the Virgin of Guadalupe for not permitting this to happen. And now she’s thanking the Virgin.

I give thanks to the Archangel of Justice because I didn’t get pregnant that awful night when I was raped when I was going home after Mexican Night party on September 15th. Thanks to Archangel for giving me courage to report them to the police since my parents were against it because of fear of revenge. The rapists were caught and went to prison. So they wouldn’t do it anymore, and I don’t wish to anybody what they did to me.

This took place in Jalapa neighborhood at the end of the 20th century.

In 1914 in Santa Ana Chiautempan my buddy caught me on the mat with his wife. He started to shoot at us. I give infinite thanks to the Holy Child of Atocha because bullets didn’t hit me. She took them all.

Holy Child of Atocha, may you be blessed for saving Vicente’s life when his cousin Carmelo stabbed him. Carmelo was furious and wanted to kill Vicente after he had found out that I was in love with him. I asked for his recovery.

This is for you, Saint Sebastian, for saving me from Roger, a sexual maniac who invited me in his house. He knew that I was enamored of him. There he tied me. Then he beat, bit and tortured me. He almost killed me. Thank you for saving me. Now he is in prison.

I was in a rage after I had heard that Maria had neglected me and had decided to marry my best friend Artemio. The goddamn Devil climbed up on me and I stabbed Artemio. But when I saw death coming after him and when I realized that all this was only an infamous slender I prayed to God for saving Artemio’s life. In repentance I ask God for forgiveness and I offer this retablo for saving Artemio from death.

I give thanks to the Saint Michael the Archangel because my sons ran away to the mountains and joined the Emiliano Zapata’s people to fight for our rights. They suffered injustice on the hacienda of a cacique, who thought he was our master and treated them like animals. Take care of my sons because they are kids who deserve to be happy as they should be.
