My husband and I dedicate this retablo to the Virgin of Lourdes because she helped us to get a church permission from the monseñor Mario Andrea Arredondo, bishop of Tampico. Without this permission we couldn’t get married since we are cousins.

January 1947, near the Guanajuato river, Tomas Ramirez was attacked by three men—two were beating him and the third man, with a gun, shot him in stomach. Tomas fell unconscious. The bullet remained inside. A surgery was performed to avoid any infection. Tomas entrusted himself to the miraculous image of Saint Francis of Paola and little by little got better. Now he’s offering this retablo to keep the miracle in mind.

On my way back from the market, I was talking with my fired Josefina. We stopped near an abandoned house. Suddenly, a skeleton appeared from the house and tried to catch us. Only thanks to the protection of the Virgin of Zapopan, we managed to escape from this ghost. The Virgin healed us from the fear that kept us for a few days after. We thank for that with this retablo.

The flower pots from the terrace were filled with black widow spiders. I was afraid they might bite my children. I thank the Virgin of San Juan for my neighbor and I managed to kill all the spiders before that.

Thank you, Virgin of Guadalupe, for all your favors. I used to climb to the mountains to look at Popocatépetl. One day I fell asleep and fell down injuring my arm and my leg. I couldn’t walk for a while. I dedicate this retablo to the Brown skin girl of Tepeyac.
