I thank God in the sky because one day, when my father was speaking on his cel and didn’t see me doing cartwheels in the supermarket cart, I fell down and broke my forehead, and he brought me to the hospital, and they stitched up my forehead, and my brains didn’t blow out.

I thank the White Dog and the Coyote for making me a company on this journey when I cross the desert and the border to get to the US at the age of 8. I witness my gratitude for that.

In the year of 1980, in the city of San Antonio, a young Jamie Eddy was afflicted with a spate of intense nosebleeds. His mother tried the usual home remedies, humidification, ointment, nasal spray and ice packs but they all failed to stop the hemorrhaging. The doctors performed chemical and electrical cauterization, painful procedures which Jamie endured with unflinching bravery, but they too failed to quell the torrent of blood. With little hope left, and even less blood, young Jamie petitioned Santa Teresa de Avila, the patroness saint of nose bleeds. He knew his prayers had been heard when the river of blood slowed to a trickle and then stopped altogether. James Eddy painted this retablo to commemorate the miracle which occurred 41 years ago. Executed this seventh day of February 2021 in the City of San Francisco.

Thank you Jesus for I didn’t kill my grandma after I jumped wearing my supergirl cape. I really thought I could fly. But now I know I can’t believe everything I see on tv.

I beg for a favor, Child of Atocha, so that my nephew Benjamin Nuñez who is about to go to school would stop being so naughty.

In Quiroga, Michoacan, October 23, 1947, the boy Jaime Sanchez was playing at the kitchen and stabbed his own hand with a knife. His parents thank Saint Paschal for the boy could recover, after having a great shock. They offer the present retablo.

The Sanchez family

We went to the town to baptize our boy. The bus broke down and we had to ride horses. On our way back a viper scared my horse, it reared up, and my baby flew up in the air. But thanks to the Virgin of Zapopan he fell right into the arms of my husband who rode behind me. Nothing happened to the baby, he didn’t even got scared because he thought we were just playing. I give infinite thanks for this miracle.

The girl Carolina Perez ate an entire box of chocolates and got herself a diarrhea that wouldn’t stop. She’s infinitely grateful, with this retablo, to the Child Doctor for her recovery and promise not to be so sweet-toothed.

When I was five, a turkey ran after me in the yard. It bit me and chased me up to a tree. It was gobbling loudly and shaking its horrid thing. I prayed my Guardian Angel, and my mommy saved me from this monster.

Ruperta Canseco brings this retablo to Saint James giving thanks for she met the painter Frida who helped her to bring her son to the doctor when he received a blow in the balls from a mule.

A horned viper was about to bite my children when they were playing, but thanks to the Virgin they noticed it in time and managed to escape.
