Lupita Martinez was a very pretty girl, and she had two suitors who were fighting for her love. On July 3, 1948, they got in a fight with machetes. She didn’t want to be responsible for a tragedy and asked Saint Michael the Archangel for help. He made it hail so heavy that the guys cooled down and stopped fighting.

Thanks, Holy Virgin, for your help on the Day of the Dead when we went to the cemetery to bring flowers to my uncle Reinaldo, may he rest in peace. Suddenly two gringos fell on the grave because it was raining quite heavily. But thanks because, although they fell right on the grave, they didn’t smash the offerings for my uncle so he could eat properly. That’s why I thank for your mercy.

Coming back from Punta Morena after a day of fishing, we were caught by a terrible storm. We were pushed to the rocks but fortunately we passed by. Thank you, Virgin of the Solitude, patroness of the seamen, for saving us.

It was a cloudy evening, and it was blowing hard. My wife had to give birth bolero due, but we lived far from the town. Our pickup truck broke down half the way. My wife had a terrible pain, and I carried her over the hills with the strong wind blowing me in the face. Our little daughter Teresita was behind us in the darkness without seeing where to go. I was exhausted, Josefina was in a lot of pain. When I couldn’t take it anymore, I invoked the Virgin of Guadalupe, and she gave me strength to go on on and get to the town. My son is called Lupe. I dedicate this retablo for her miracle.

Because of a very powerful hurricane that hit our town, the river bursted its banks and I was trapped in my truck with my little dog. I give infinite thanks to Saint Rita with this retablo because the rescue team came in time and saved me and my little dog Canela.

Señora Delfina infinitely thanks the Virgin of San Juan for granting her son Jesus healing from a severe pneumonia he caught while searching his little cow that got scared of lightnings during a thunderstorm, ran out of the corral and hid in a cave.

Don Luciano Jimenez dedicate this humble retablo to the Virgin of Zapopan, as a token of gratitude, because he had good harvest of agaves this year. There was bad weather in the region the last season and he lost big part of his crop. It worried him very much because he and all his family depends on the agaves.

I, Angelica, pay with this ex-voto to the Holy Face of God giving him many thanks for he gave me strength to withstand severe frosts that happen here in Wisconsin. I’m from Mexico and it’s never so cold over there.

At the beach of Chacahua, very early in the morning, I walked four hours to the other side of the beach. When I wanted to return, the sun was already coming out, so I asked God to put clouds in the sky because otherwise I could’ve got sunstroke by the high temperatures that are recorded there, and me being in the middle of a territory with crocodiles, poisonous animals and predators. The villagers said that day was very strange because there are almost never clouds at that time of year.

When I crossed the town square it started raining so terribly and so heavy that one couldn’t see around. Suddenly the fish began falling down. I had no idea what to do and where to go. Thanks to the Virgin I saw a light. I went towards it, and it was the bakery door. I waited inside with my baby and my dog until this strange deluge stopped. I thank the Virgin for guiding my way.

I was walking down the old road with my children. Suddenly a thunderstorm began. I was afraid because I knew that the river bursts its banks and floods the road when it rains heavily. I prayed the Virgin of Zapopan, and we ran against the wind and rain splashing in our faces. Thanks to the Holy Virgin we get to the house and only got our clothes soaked. I thank for our protection.

When it’s very cold, I take my sheep and let them sleep in my bed to keep me warm. Beside the warmth I receive gratitude from them because they feel very comfortable in my bed. I thank Saint Francis because my sheep are so loving and docile.

I thank the Virgin of Zapopan for having sent me the warning about a hailstorm coming. Having this presentiment, I had time to put all my animals inside the house. Otherwise, they would have suffered and got sick outside. Together we passed a calm night, warm and safe.
