I was very sad for I’d been wrong in love. I asked Saint Anthony for his divine help, and few days later a very galant young man came to our town. I met him at the central square, and he began to court me. He’s turned out to be the love of my life. That’s what I always wanted so much, and I dedicate the present retablo for this.

Luisa Maria Gomes had a lot of suitors. All of them tried to win her over but being dull and predictable they only annoyed her. And they weren’t handsome. One day she met Pedro Lopez. He conquered her heart by giving her a carnivorous plant. She thank Saint Anthony for such an original man who’s also smart and has beautiful eyes. And with this plant, there are no more flies and mosquitos in her house.

Mr. Joaquin Hernandez loved cigars. But one day a scoundrel put a firecracker in his cigar and it exploded right in his face. He ended up in the hospital. He thanks the Virgin of Guadalupe for his recovery although the scars remain.

The terrible tragedy happened the other night when Cutberto came home with the booze. He got me out the room and began to beat me insulting me. My daughter came over trying to defend me. Her father was going to beat her also. That moment I implored the Lord of the Column, and he didn’t hurt my daughter. A miracle happened on May 17, 1965.
