April 27, 1916, I, under the name of Sebastiano Farello Francesco, born in Bitetto, was crossing the bridge over the Erie Canal Rome—New York demonstrated here when I stumbled and fell down in the water and stones from a height of 20 spans. On the threshold of imminent danger, with all my faith I implored the Holy Maria of the Well to help me. She worked the miracle, and I escaped the danger unhurt. And, to my surprise, even the bicycle wasn’t damaged.

My mother-in-law always criticized my food because she didn’t like me as a daughter-in-law. It was very difficult for me when we were eating. Now she even admits that I cook very well, and when we eat we are all peaceful.

We dedicate this retablo to the Captive Lord because our daughters, Olga and Elena, forgave us after they had found the adoption certificates which we had been keeping hidden because none of the girls had known they were orphans.

During the earthquake on August 5, the church was cracked. But by an extraordinary miracle of the Virgin two halves of it turned back in one piece and the church became intact again. All the inhabitants of the town give thanks for witnessing this miracle.

Isidoro Valensia thanks the Virgin of Guadalupe because his wife Letisia forgave him and let him to come back to her after she had found out that they were only rumors that he had an affair with her friend. He offers this retablo.

“Cabellera contra cabellera” (hair vs. hair) is a type of wrestling match where both wrestlers place their hair as a wager and the loser gets his head shaved.

I’ve ordered this retablo dedicated to my Virgin of Carmen (Lady of Mount Carmel) because since I became a widow my house needed a lot of repairs. But I met a very good man in the store. And he didn’t charge me for changing the window in the room of my daughter Rosita. She also liked him very much.

I was picking oranges and fell from the ladder. My bones are very fragile and I was frightened I might break one. But thanks to the Virgin of San Juan I fell down on my husband, who is very lazy and never helps. I offer this retablo to the Virgin.
