God

I offer you this retablo, Holy Lord, for saving me during this encounter with the most hideous creature that my sister and I saw at the town cemetery.

We thank God with this retablo for the miracle of meeting and loving each other. We couldn’t imagine so much happiness. We fell like there’s not a couple in the world that is happier than we.

It was getting dark. I went with my wife Lupita in the field to scrape the agave and gather the maguey sap with the acocote. Suddenly we noticed a horrible animal with wings and long teeth. It wanted to attack us. We entrusted ourselves to the Holy Child of Atocha so that he would protect us. Thank God we managed to escape.

Thank you, God, for saving us from the chupacabra.

Acocote is a long gourd pointed at both ends, used in Mexico for extracting the nectar of the maguey.

I thank God for protecting 150 passengers and 5 crew members of the US Airways flight 1549 that departed at 15:03 from the New York airport LaGuardia to Charlotte (North Carolina). Because of an accident occurred three minutes after the departure the pilot Chesley Sullenberger managed to land the plane on the Hudson River. All aboard survived and were rescued. It was a miracle.

My husband was a heavy drinker, and God punished him with hallucinations. One day the hallucinations were so horrible and he saw strange monsters chasing him. He entrusted himself to the Virgin of Guadalupe, mounted the mule and left the village. God led him to the capital, in a place where several months later with Virgin’s help he was cured. He came back home cured from his madness, and he doesn’t drink anymore.

May you be blessed God for saving us from dying in the September 11 attacks on the Twin Towers because we were late for work in the restaurant in one of the towers.

She was born October 15, 1873. She was 12 years 3 months and 15 days old when she died in January of 1885, at 10:30 am. And at 10 p.m., during the vigil for her, she rose from the dead with help and mercy of All-Holy God. We bring this retablo for the miracle.

I thank God and San Anthony of Padua for sending me a fiancé. I thought I would stay an old maid forever. And when I expected nothing to happen I heard a serenade. It was Pedro Lopez, a boyfriend that I had before and who came back from USA. We got married and now we are very happy.

Mother, there is your daughter, take care of her.
Daughter, there is your mother, love her.

Thank God I found my daughter who ran away after she had found that I was going to divorce her father. I didn’t think about pain I caused to her. I thought it over and I’m very sorry. Now, when I found her living on the streets, I give thanks because I saved her from the vice of drugs. I swear to take care of her and to give her love and affection as she deserves. I realized that motherhood is a blessing but also a responsibility.

May you be praised, God and the Virgin of Guadalupe. I was swimming on the Zihuatanejo beach, when suddenly two mermaids dragged me to the bottom of the sea. I thought I was going to drown, because I had no air to breathe. Then one mermaid kissed me, and I fainted. When I awoke, I was lying on the sand on the beach.

I want to thank God and the Virgin of Guadalupe with this ex-voto because it’s time for the Day of the Dead. Every year I make an altar in memory of my late husband Rogaciano. My heart is filled with joy when I feel the presence of his soul. I am overwhelmed with emotions.

Oh my Lord, my eternal Father, who took him in the kingdom of heaven, may his soul rest in peace near by you. Send comfort to his parents, brothers and friends who will always remember him as Alex was a great friend. Rest with god.
