We committed a heavy sin, trying to bewitch the Fulgencia’s husband. We danced ecstatically and did all exactly how doña Panful had taught us to keep him in love. Reinaldo Castillo proposed me. He went to my mother to ask my hand in marriage. I was afraid she’d reject him how she had rejected my previous fiancé because my elder sister Matilda, her favorite, hasn’t got married yet. Because of her bad temper, she scares the young men off. I thank the Virgin of the Rosary for the wonderful miracle because my mother accepted my fiancé and we can get married now, although my sister threw a tremendous tantrum.

Gregorio Aladero went to the desert to eat peyote. He thanks the Virgin of Guadalupe because, although he had strange hallucinations, he wasn’t frightened and didn’t succumb to paranoia. No insect, no snake bit him. He had a lot of wonderful discoveries during his trip, so he feels happy.

A flower pot fell on the Laura Rodriguez’ head because of two dogs fighting. Laura lost her memory and forgot her name and where she lived. Fortunately, one of her neighbors saw her wandering confusedly and took her home. Laura thanks the Virgin of the Rosary because she got her memory back, although sometimes she still has doubts about her name.

Just before the bull hit Juaquina Meneses from behind, her buddy Cleto Ruis implored the Holy Child of Atocha’s protection. Miraculously, the bull did nothing to her. She thanks for that with the retablo.

Tlaxcala, 1920

When I returned home after a trip, I found a vampire sleeping in my bed. This monster even used my pink sheets. I thank the Virgin of Zapopan, because I was so angry that I had no fear at all. I grabbed a crucifix from the wall and came close to the vampire. The monster got scared, he ran away and never came back.

My son Raulito almost drowned when he was swimming with his friends. Only thanks to the Virgin of San Juan, other kids could save him in time. I give thanks.

Mr. Benjamin Soler used to see the image of a hanged man every night in his bedroom. Thanks to the prayers to the Holy Child of Atocha, he was saved from this nightmare.
