The ringmaster of “Circo Godinez” thanks Saint Rita of Cascia because his kids, Jacinta and Benjamin, had a successful debut with acrobatic stunts on the horses. They received a round of applause and felt very proud and happy for such a great achievement.

My mother-in-law always criticized my food because she didn’t like me as a daughter-in-law. It was very difficult for me when we were eating. I was in such despair so I entrusted myself to Saint Paschal, and little by little she changed her attitude towards me. Now she even admits that I cook very well, and when we eat we are all peaceful.

May you be blessed!

Try as he might, Agustin Robledo couldn’t find a girlfriend. So he prayed to Saint Anthony of Padua, and now he thanks for sending him a girl. Although she’s all covered with tattoos and his family thinks she’s weirdo, Agustin is happy.

My girlfriend’s parents didn’t like me visiting her. So I secretly started to climb a ladder to get to her balcony. But one night my mother-in-law accidentally pushed the ladder when she opened the kitchen window to scare some barking dogs away. I thank the Virgin of the Rosary, because my mother-in-law was smitten with remorse, and now, because of feelings of guilt, she let me visit my girlfriend whenever I want to.

On the night of November 2, 1982, my girlfriend Lupita and I went to a date to the cemetery, because my mother-in-law didn’t permit to Lupita to have suitors. We were alone chatting, when suddenly some skeletons appeared. They were dancing and playing some instruments. We got scared and promised not to come to the cemetery ever again. Thanks to the Virgin of Guadalupe we didn’t get sick and we even get married. So now we’re happy.

I dedicate this retablo to you, Virgin of Guadalupe, for the love of my mother, who used to lull me in her rebozo-shawl until I fell asleep. She sang me lullabies while working as a laundress, washing clothes. She loved this rebozo so much that she wore it till her death. When I see a rebozo, it calls up these sweet memories about my mother, doña Carmelita, whom I never forget.

I thank Saint Paschal for his favor that I received right on this humble kitchen. I never was a good cook. But when I got married my husband said that he really didn’t care about it. However, some time later he started to go to eat at his mother’s house. I stayed at home alone, and I was afraid of losing him. I prayed to Saint Paschal for help. He worked a miracle and made my food taste good. Now my husband never misses a dinner at home and he even boasts about my cooking. I thank for that.

I was in my drugstore when the Zapatistas arrived and took my wife and my mother-in-law. I thank the Holy Child of Atocha for they didn’t see me.

Saint Jude Thaddeus, I thank you for hearing my prayers, so now my old woman is cured. She fainted a lot. The doctor said it happened because of lack of food, and probably she had anemia. I couldn’t provide more food for her because I didn’t make enough money selling dishes. Now I’m old and can’t work. But before we lived good, and I had a cattle herd. But my sons forced me to sell it to cover their needs. We had three sons, and no one is taking care of us. All of them went to Los Angeles, California. They’ve lived there for 12 years. Sometimes they send us three postcards and some dollars. But the most important thing now is that my old woman Francisca is cured.

My son David became a good for nothing hippy. He spent days smoking stinking cigarettes. I suspect it was marijuana. I prayed to the Virgin of Zapopan so that she would bring him to reason. Thanks to her he got a scholarship in the capital. Now he’s a good man.

The parents kicked out Roberto Carrasco. He had no job. He prayed to Saint Pancras and got a job as a chippendale. So he can continue his studies. He thanks for that with the retablo.

With this retablo, we thank Saint Jude Thaddeus, from the bottom of our hearts, for a very good fish season. Thanks to that we managed to open our fish shop at the city market. So now we can help our parents. May you be blessed.

Sandra Martinez loved to ride her horse naked, because it aroused her. But one day her parents caught her and sent her to the city. She gives thanks to Saint Jerome for correcting her behavior.
